High performance for T5 and T6 combine harvesters
Last June, John Deere launched eight new straw walker combine harvesters. These are the T5 and T6 models, offered with a wide range of engines - from the robust 6.8-litre engine with a maximum power of 305 Hp of the T5 400 to the powerful JD9X engine with nine litres and 466 Hp of the flagship T6 800 - which, as the US manufacturer explains, ensure high-level performance, also in terms of fuel consumption. One of the great strengths of the JD9X engine is, in fact, the intelligent power management system - the HarvestMotionTM technology - which reduces the number of engine revolutions during road transfers, thus optimising driving efficiency. Another plus of the new combine harvesters is the cab, derived from the X9 model. Characterised by good roominess – it offers the driver a space of no less than 4 cubic metres – the cab is equipped with numerous “last gen” devices, such as the ActiveSeat II, LED lights, the display on the corner pillar and electronically closing dust-proof doors, while the CommandPRO joystick gives the operator intuitive and personalised control of all major machine functions. Harvest operations are also more effective, thanks to the redesign of the feed neck, which now has the same width as the harvest channel – 167 cm for six-straw walker models – and which allows to eliminate possible bottlenecks in the crop flow. The larger hopper (up to 13,500 litres for T6 models and 11,500 litres for T5 models) significantly improves grain management, just as the exhaust pipe deflector improves operator control of crop flows regardless of the type of trailer used. The emptying speed, says John Deere with a technical note, reaches up to 150 litres/second, for a total of 10 tons of grain in just 90 seconds.
