The KATR is a four-wheeled multitask robotic platform made by Kubota to offer top-level performance on all terrains, especially, on the most uneven and steepest terrain. Compact and robust, designed for off-road operations, the KATR robot is equipped with innovative technology that regulates the stability of the wheels and keeps the loading platform level even on hilly terrain and steep slopes. A distinctive feature of the robot is its dynamic stability control system, which uses gyroscopic sensors and load cells to detect the center of gravity and the slope of the terrain, making the vehicle particularly suitable for material transport operations on off-road routes. The design of the horizontal base, in fact, improves stability during transport and its rounded corners have been specially crafted with safety in mind. An algorithm processes the sensor data in real time, then – explains the Japanese manufacturer in a technical note – commands the robot's four hydraulically operated legs to extend or retract to maintain the stability of the platform, while the four independent motors provide all the power needed to operate in difficult environments. Another strong point of this model is its data collection system. KATR can be equipped with different types of sensors capable of collecting a large amount of information on the working environment – from soil moisture to the vegetative state of plants – providing very precise readings to successfully guide the farmer's decisions. KATR is designed to offer the user all the solidity and resistance required of heavy duty machinery. Its compact and adjustable frame is 116 cm wide but can be extended up to 234 cm, and is thus able to work even in the tightest spaces. KATR can be powered by an internal combustion engine (gas) or an electric motor, giving the operator the option to choose the option that best suits his/her needs. Finally, it is worth noting that the Kubota multitask robot has a load capacity of 129 kilos and can be controlled remotely or via an on-board controller.
