The continuously variable gearbox on Storti mixer wagons

Time for new products by Storti. The company based in Belfiore (in the province of Verona, Italy) has equipped one of its mixer wagons with a continuously variable gearbox. For Storti, this is a very important innovation since, until now, it had always relied on mechanical transmissions. These, according to the manufacturer, are very advantageous in terms of performance (high) and fuel consumption (low), but they also have a limitation: they only have two working speeds and can be a little abrupt in their movements when the wagon is loaded. The new continuously variable gearbox, which gradually adjusts the speed of the augers from 0 to 50 rpm, without any interruption, was created precisely with the aim of combining the benefits of the hydraulic transmission - i.e. the wide speed range with starts even from 0 rpm - with those of the mechanical transmission. The technology developed by Storti does not substitute one for the other, but rather complements them: the hydraulics are only used for starting the vehicle and driving at low speeds, and then gives way to the mechanical transmission as the engine speed increases and the self-propelled vehicle approaches operating speed. Once the work cycle is complete, the continuously variable gearbox allows the operator to accelerate the rotation of the augers for cleaning.
