Spotlight on the BCS fully-electric models
BCS' first prototype of a 100% electric tractor This machine (an EIMA 2024 Technical Innovation award winer), features two electric motors powered by an on-board battery. It has a 3 kW electric motor for the PTO and a 1.5 kW for the traction for a total nominal power of 4.5 kW. It is the same size as a traditional two-wheel tractor with an internal combustion engine, but with the advantage of full compatibility with the current range of BCS equipment (according to power requirements) thanks to the reversibility of the guide handles for use with both rear and front tools. It can operate in autonomy for up to 4 hours with variable power absorption, depending on the type of work performed.
The continuously variable speed transmission (from 0 up to 5 km/h), the electrically controlled PTO engagement and the zero-emission electric motor allow the new BCS motor cultivator to be used in environments that are more sensitive to air and noise pollution (e.g. greenhouses, work in residential areas, hospitals, etc.). Greater operator comfort is provided by the low vibration and noise levels, and no exhaust fumes, while the absence of polluting emissions provides greater environmental sustainability.
BCS is also bringing the new 606 Smartsafe motor mower to EIMA International. This is a lightweight, compact machine designed for working on small plots of land, in private gardens or in extremely restricted spaces. Powered by a 5.9 HP petrol engine, the 606 Smartsafe model comes with a 2+2 gearbox and the new SmartSafe clutch featuring multiple steel discs in an oil bath which provide greater reliability and less maintenance than the inverted conical clutches on the market. Furthermore, the cup springs between the discs transform the clutch into a real automatic brake which, in an emergency, immediately stops the power take-off while keeping the engine running and capable of quickly resuming work.
Ferrari, another brand of the Abbiategrasso group, is also embracing electric power, debuting with the new e-Astral at EIMA, a compact and multi-functional isodiametric tractor with fully electric propulsion. Under the hood of the e-Astral are two electric motors: the first 16 kW is used for the hydraulic system, power steering and services, while the second 25 kW motor is dedicated to traction. The transmission, made in-house by BCS, is equipped with a 12-speed forward gearbox plus 12 reverse gears with synchronized reverser, new multi-disc oil bath clutch and integrated lubrication system. The Ferrari-branded fully-electric isodiametric vehicle is available in the 'AR' version with articulated chassis or 'RS' with steering wheels, with roll bar or 'Vista Clima' cabin and with a reversible driving position.
