Claas Axion 850: Tractor of the Year 2014
The Claas Axion 850 captured the Tractor of the Year 2014 prize organized by Vado e Torno Edizioni, presented 10 November on the inaugural day of Agritechnica 2013, assigned out of a field of seven tractors in the top category and four in the Best of Specialized, on the parameters of engine, transmission, onboard electronics, hydraulics, cab comfort, technological innovations, design and power/price ratio.
The Claas Axion has been totally redesigned, given a longer wheelbase for an equal distribution of weight between the axles and a suspended cab mounted on four silent blocs. New under the hood for the line are new FPT 6.7 liter engines which comply with the Stage IV (Tier 4f) to make the power plant capable of meeting any future emission control requirements. Exhaust gases are cleaned by a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC/Oxi cat) and an SCR catalytic converter. The HEXASHIFT transmission will be available initially and the continuously variable CMATIC transmission will follow.
The Best of the Specialized prize was awarded to the Aebi Viatrac VT 450 Vario, a technologically advanced, stepless mechanical-hydrostatic transporter excellent for transport on steep slopes. The Vario VT450 is powered by a 98 hp Vm and features hydropneumatic single-wheel suspension according to the double transverse link principle to enable the links to rotate in opposition up to 30°. The new stepless transmission with mechanical-hydrostatic power split is composed of a compact hydrostat unit with variable pump and constant-displacement engine, and a mechanical transmission with three gear ratios.
In the design competition, the Lamborghini Nitro 130 VRT from Giorgetto Giugiaro's drawing board was given the Golden Tractor for the Design prize. This elegant and unmistakably ultra-modern tractor is powered by a 4-cylinder Deitz engine rated at 127 hp and in line with the Tier 4
