The New Holland introduction of the SmartTrax system for rubber track crawler tractors  has confirmed the manufacturer's avant-garde approach to the application of technological solutions. New Holland's new SmartTrax tracks option, available on TK4000 models, consists of an innovative solution with a rubber resistant steel interior with a central core surrounded by a metallic spiral structure in steel that provides great wear resistance similar to that of traditional crawlers with steel track. Moreover, in addition there are three major advantages as regards comfort during use, versatility and less damage to the soil. These are reduced vibration for the driver in compliance with the standards of ISO 2631 on human exposure to vibration and shock. The value of vibration has been reduced below 0.5 m/s2, the threshold reached in almost all working conditions. The second benefit, greater versatility, is provided by the SmartTrax that the system is fully interchangeable with the original steel tracks. Furthermore, side slippage is strongly reduced thanks to the herringbone design of the tread which means that the tractor can be driven on public roads and does not require transport. The third advantage comes through the use of rubber rather than steel tracks which reduces damage to the soil and crops, especially when operating in muddy conditions, and are easier on the terrain when turning uphill. Luca Mainardi, the head of Tractor Telehandler and Precision Farming Product Management, commented, “New Holland is proud of its history of leadership and devotion to the special agricultural machines,” and referred to the manufacturer's “commitment to strengthen its global leadership in this important segment of the agricultural sector.”
