60th anniversary The historic Cuneo-based company celebrates 60 years of business with an exhibition divided into five thematic rooms, which retrace the long growth path that began “way back” in 1964. Today Merlo has a presence on five continents with 7 branches and 680 distributors and dealers
The exhibition is divided into five thematic rooms: "The origins", "A history of innovation", "Verde Merlo", "Identity and perspective", and "Towards the future", which are filled with images, videos, models and explanatory panels to help guide visitors along the path to discover one of the great Italian powerhouses in the field of agricultural mechanics. Merlo, located in the town San Defendente in the province of Cuneo, has chosen to celebrate its 60th anniversary with an exhibition in the heart of the city of Cuneo. Opening on November 12, 2024, the event, entitled "Merlo: 60 years of history", is curated by Art.ur association for art culture and innovation, and Studio3Mark. For two months, from November 12 to January 12, agricultural mechanics enthusiasts, employees of the historic Cuneo company and interested members of the general public will have the opportunity to retrace some of the most significant stages of the entrepreneurial journey undertaken by the founder, Amilcare Merlo, who passed away in 2022. The journey began way back in 1964 with the construction of a 40,000 square meter production plant and the first assembly line dedicated to the production of dumpers, self-loading concrete mixers, forklifts and telescopic boom cranes. The production of the first telescopic handler by Merlo, the SM30 model, marked an expansion of the range at the beginning of the 1980s which laid the foundations for a considerable strengthening of the San Defendente company on the Italian and foreign markets. The growth path was further consolidated a few years later with the development of the innovative Panoramic line, which marked the debut of the lateral engine and low-hinged arm on the rear part of the frame. Development continued in the decades that followed with continuous product innovation linked to the creation of highly innovative solutions. Today, Merlo - which includes multiple specialized divisions and has 1,700 employees - is present on five continents with seven branches (United States, France, Germany, England, Spain, Poland and Australia) and with a distribution network of over 80 importers and 600 dealers. In 2023, the coompany produced more than 8,700 vehicles - 7,500 telescopic handlers and 700 compactors - of which over 80% were exported. “The history of Merlo is the history of dozens of people, who became hundreds and today number in the thousands, who work together and are dedicated to seeing this idea continue to thrive. Today, – states the president of the Cuneo company, Paolo Merlo - as we celebrate 60 years of Merlo, the time has come to stop and look back at the history we have built together, with pride and responsibility”.
