Kuhn Logistics: a new center in Saverne
Kuhn S.A., a major manufacturer of agricultural machinery, created its second Alsatian production site dedicated to the assembly of large machines in Monswiller and is now opening a new phase to meet future challenges by strengthening plants and reorganizing and modernizing its internal logistics with a large-scale project with investments of some € 17 million and on the historic production site of Saverne, which currently employs over 1 200 employees. The new Central Logistics Center will take over a site of about 10,000 m² with the construction of a 20 m high modern structure, replacing buildings which have been demolished. The facilities will be used for receiving and storing 18,000 references of parts and components from Kuhn suppliers, sub-contractors and other group factories. The value of this new center will lie in the ability to supply the manufacture and assembly plants more precisely and more regularly with the most precision of quantities of materials required and frequency. The objective of the project is to give the company the means to react even more rapidly to customer demands and produce precisely what is needed at the right time, freeing storage spaces of workshops to replace them by spaces creating added value. Modern handling techniques will include an automatic system of storage and retrieval machines with a capacity of 32,000 spaces as well as the best monitoring software implemented in order to ensure the highest performance and optimal working conditions for clerks and forklift truck operators who will run the facility expected to go into operation in the second quarter of 2017.
