Kuhn has revamped its range of single-metering trailed seed drills for minimum tillage sowing. This includes the launch of the new ESPRO 1002, a range that replaces the ESPRO 1000 and is made up of four models: two rigid 3 and 4 meter models (ESPRO 3002 and 4002) and two foldable 4 and 6 meter models (ESPRO 4002 R and 6002 R). These machines offer a lot of autonomy, with hoppers of 2,500 liters on the 3-meter version and 3,500 liters on the 4 and 6-meter versions.

There are also a lot of new features. The combination of six independent operating sections makes the seed drills versatile both on ploughed land and in minimum tillage fields. The narrow, large diameter (900 mm) packer-wheels have a perfectly square profile offset in two rows spaced 200 mm apart. This configuration reduces rolling resistance and prevents debris from accumulating at the front of the wheel assembly. This innovative concept reduces the power required as well as fuel consumption.

The Crossflex coulter bar features large, offset 41mm double discs with bevelled edges. The seeding units are mounted on a specially profiled bar and held firmly in place with polyurethane pins. This solution provides for uniform seeding depth even at high speeds.

The ESPRO 1002 seed drills come with a new design and new features. These include simplified access for filling the hopper using a protected side platform placed above the working tools. Added to this is easier loading thanks to the semi-opening mode of the hopper, which makes it possible to bring the loading vehicle as close as possible to the seed drill.

The seed drill can be equipped with “straight” working discs, suitable for minimum tillage agricultural practices. They limit the worked area and maintain soil moisture. The individual and independent fastening of each disc ensures good soil adaptation. The new discs join the concave and serrated ones already available.

Other new features of ESPRO 1002 also include the increase in the maximum pressure on the ground of the double seeding disc, from 80 to 120 kg, which Kuhn considers a concrete advantage for farmers engaged in minimum tillage on dry and/or clay soils.
