Cosmeco's Axel Vertical ditcher debuts at Agritechnica

Axel is the name that Cosmeco, the Mantua-based maker of ditching and horticultural equipment, has given to its new family of vertical ditchers to be unveiled at Agritechnica 2013.

The special single-wheel ditchers have been developed for the creation of ditches with vertical sides, ideal for draining schemes, gutters, pipes, cable laying, and the making of foundations.

The machine has a rear cutting shoe, which clears and refines the ditch, making the sides compact and allowing nonstop draining on the bottom of the ditch, even when it's closed on top.

The operator can adjust the ditch width simply by placing the knives in different positions on the wheel. Cosmeco says a new frame design marks the new line out from traditional vertical ditchers.

The design reduces the machine's volume and improves its movement so as to achieve a perfectly central dig precisely in line with the tractor's PTO.
This feature is especially useful in orchards, for example, where space between the rows is limited. Nonetheless, a single drainage channel can be run between the trees, and without harming the roots.

Axel ditchers are also appreciated by those who use them in the open field. Cosmeco said the Axel line consists of various versions, with a maximum digging depth of 70 cm. With the right accessories, the Axel can dig the ditch, lay the pipe, whether for drainage or irrigation and cover it with earth in a single operation.

For its other ditcher families, Cosmeco says that, if equipped with a specific device, they can tamp down greenhouse film even within a close distance to the greenhouse. It lists its other products as including bed formers, plant cover tunnels, adjustable ridgers and subsoiler/drainers.
