Agricolus, an app for crop management
The Umbrian-based high-tech company Agricolus (headquartered in Perugia), which specializes in developing digital tools for agriculture, is presenting its new App for the agricultural world at this year's EIMA International event. The application makes it possible to perform different types of functions, starting from the mapping of fields, which can be done manually, by drawing their outlines, or even through automatic detection. The Agricolus Development team says that this hybrid approach offers the utmost flexibility in adapting the mapping to the specific needs of the farmer. In addition to mapping, the App includes a remote monitoring function, which makes it is possible to evaluate the health of crops directly on a smartphone. This assessment takes into consideration seven vegetation indices to gain a detailed overview of the growth status of plants. Farmers can view the data in real time in order to identify critical issues and plan targeted operations to deal with any water stress, compensate for nutrient deficiencies or combat plant diseases. The data from the weather stations connected to the App, together with the forecast models for phenology, irrigation, fertilization and defense, make it possible to accurately estimate the needs of the crops and prevent the onset of plant diseases and the presence of harmful insects. Finally, the Agricolus App makes it possible to collect data on crops directly in the field, and attach photos and voice notes to share in real time with co-workers. All cultivation operations carried out can in turn be recorded, documented in detail and archived.
