Valtra adopts fuels from renewable sources
Valtra is the first tractor manufacturer in the world to start using Neste MY Renewable Diesel as starter fuel for all new tractors. Since March of this year, all the new Valtra brand tractors, as well as all the forklift trucks used in its factory, will run on the new fuel. This HVO type fuel mainly consists of waste and residues. In the production process, the impurities are removed from the raw materials, which are then hydrotreated at high temperature. The result is a colourless and odourless fuel of a uniform quality which has a chemical component identical to that of fossil diesel. Neste My is made entirely from waste, residues and renewable sources, and produces up to 90% less greenhouse gas emissions than fossil fuels such as diesel. The reduction in emissions that is achieved by using diesel from renewable sources is comparable to eliminating almost 560 cars from the roads for one year, or 46 thousand hours of zero emission tractor activity per year.
“In today’s world it is essential - says Mikko Lehikoinen, Valtra’s marketing director - to show our customers that we are implementing clear actions to protect the environment. Neste MY offers us an easy way to move towards environmentally friendly activities. We consume large quantities of diesel fuel, so this change is truly significant”. The new fuel can be used in tractors and forklifts without any additives
