The high efficiency of the Sele 8300 harvester

Now more than ever it is extremely important to perform harvesting operations vegetables and fresh fruit and vegetable products (the so-called IV range) quickly. In order for fresh products to maintain all their quality characteristics unaltered, it is essential that they arrive to the warehouse in the shortest possible time. The sector, moreover, is rapidly expanding, but the increase in cultivated surfaces – in greenhouses or in open fields – risks suffering from the difficulty of finding specialized labour, especially in the Sele plain, in Cilento. Precisely to respond to this need Ortomec of Cona (Venice) has created the 8300 Sele harvester. This is an agile, high-performance self-propelled vehicle which, equipped with large four-wheel drive steering, adapts to the typical working conditions of the Sele plain near Cilento. Four operators are required to operate the harvester. The first solely to oversee the general management and control of the work; the second for filling the crates, which occurs continuously and without the need to stop the machine; the third operator places the full crates on the pallet, and checks their weight as necessary. The fourth and final operator loads the empty crate delivery system, making sure they reach the filling point (i.e. the second operator), but can also assist the third operator to fill the pallets. When ready for unloading at the headland, the pallets are transferred onto the transport vehicle simply by means of a pallet truck, i.e. without a forklift or tractor. Thanks to the technology developed by Ortomec, the Sele 8300 self-propelled harvester is able to offer particularly high yields, optimizing the use of human labor.
