Ocmis, intelligent irrigation systems

For the irrigation sector, Ocmis is launching a 360° rotating overhang at EIMA International. The device – winner of Mention at EIMA 2024 – consists of a steel counterweight and steel tie rods, as well as a front part made of modular aluminum trusses that support two lines made of P.E. D.50 pipe to which the sprinklers and the final jet are attached. The overhang is flanged with a double ball bearing with internal teeth and is driven by a worm gearmotor and a three-phase inverter. The inverter, in turn, is managed through the can-bus system with PLC controller and 4.3” display for programming and controlling the angular position, opening and closing of the sprinkler control hydraulic valves (in accordance with the position of the machine detected with the GPS antenna installed on board the overhang).

The upper structure can rotate 360° on its vertical axis in a controlled manner to avoid obstacles and to adapt to the morphology of the land to be irrigated. The overhang is autonomous in the execution of its work cycle, since it is based on a program set with the control PLC and on the position acquired via GPS; this means that it can freely vary both the working angle and the sequential opening and closing of the sprinklers and the end jet. Unlike other models on the market, which can only rotate 90°, the Ocmis overhang can achieve 360° rotation. This – explains the manufacturer from Castelvetro di Modena – improves its ability to avoid obstacles and optimizes coverage and irrigation uniformity.

The structure is made of load-bearing aluminum trellises and the use of 2 separate small-diameter PE lines have allowed the Emilian company to reduce the dry weight by 28% (55% during irrigation operations) and, therefore, to lighten the load on the ground. From an operational point of view, this means that it is possible to rotate and work even in intermediate positions.

The possibility of working with angles other than that longitudinal to the machine and of being able to control each sprinkler independently – continues the Modena company – allows for the irrigation of additional areas, increasing the total irrigation efficiency of this device.

The 360° rotating overhang can be used with various types of machines, such as fixed-center pivots, linear pivots or racetrack pivots and can also be retrofitted to existing systems.
