LSB 1290 iD press, for high-density bales
The innovative Twinpact system makes the Kuhn model able to create high-density bales and avoid load peaks on the application as well as on the tractor. LSB 1290 iD ensures high performance both with traditional and biomass crops
Amongst the many models that the French Kuhn presents at EIMA International, the LSB 1290 iD press deserves a special mention. It is a machine equipped with the innovative Twinpact system, thanks to which it is possible not only to obtain high-density bales (up to 25% more than with other devices, as the manufacturer declares) but also to avoid load peaks both on the press and on the tractor.
The Twinpact pressing piston is divided into 2 parts - the upper and the lower ones - connected to each other through a special connecting rod, so the impact of the piston on the bale occurs in two moments, increasing the force applied per unit of surface and, therefore, the compaction. In short, despite the bales are heavier, the load on the application is not different from that of other models.
Among other things, as the manufacturer explains, there is no need to equip the press with an oversized transmission, flywheel, and frame.
“Having denser, and therefore heavier, bales means lowering the transport costs and making handling even more efficient. In addition to being suitable for conventional crops such as straw or hay - explains Kuhn - LSB 1290 iD can offer top-level performance even in difficult conditions, for example for collecting energy crops and biomass».
From a strictly technological point of view, the Kuhn machinery can boast among its strengths the 60 cm integral rotor which ensures a uniform and continuous flow with any type of product. To support heavy duty work, the rotor teeth are made of extra-resistant steel; in case of necessity, they are easy to replace because they are only bolted.
Another flagship of is the press is the Power Density system, designed to create consistent and hard bales through the continuous adaptation to the different condition of the swaths. “Whether it’s a small swath of alfalfa or a bulky straw crop - the manufacturer continues - whether it’s an irregular swath produced by a combine harvester or a swath produced by a mower, the results are the same: every bale turns out to be solid, heavy and well-formed, with well-defined angles».
With the Power Density system, the forage is taken behind the integral rotor by the in the folder, which works at twice the speed of the piston, optimally feeding the pre-chamber.
Only when the prechamber is 100% full, a pressure is exerted on the wedges in the upper part of the prechamber; once this pressure is exceeded, the pitcher’s fork fires and pushes the pre-compressed forage into the pressing chamber where the piston compresses it to form the bale.
The binding is performed by six double-knot binders, while the (large) turbines driven by independent hydraulics guarantee an effective cleaning even with a high presence of dust.
Finally, the special wheelbase (135 cm), the large tandem axle and the large tires (710/40-22.5), as well as the pneumatic braking system, enhance the stability and safety of the LSB 1290 iD press.
