teen million hectares can thus discover new opportunities
in these areas, revise their future roles, weigh various op-
tions and invade new markets.
Moreover, according to the National Statistics Institute, IS-
TAT, multi-functional operations account for a significant
8% of production in the sector, a share which has shown
substantial growth over the past decade. It must be point-
ed out that over time past the farming sector has lost con-
siderable ground by losing 0.5% of value added annually
from 2000 to 2010 and has experienced bouts of instabil-
ity influenced by the results of climate change.
On the other hand, there has been a positive trend running
counter to these conditions which involve multi-functional
activities. In a 2016 document ISTAT reported, "The census
of agriculture in 2010 showed a significant change in the
production sector and the organizational arrangements of
farms. The development of activities which increase the mul-
ti-functional role of farming enterprises under the agro-en-
vironmental heading and safeguarding the landscape form
a strategy for the growth of profitability by bringing in some
supply chain avenues for retaining part of the value added
by support and secondary activities."
In summary, there is a minimum common denominator
among many sectors which only appear separated but are
actually all interconnected.
This is the reason why the EIMA M.i.A. Salon has been
planned at a Shared Green, that is, focused on agriculture
as an interdisciplinary point of contact for discovering tech-
nologies, materials, innovations capable of addressing na-
ture in its many forms and border areas of cities and farm-
lands and landscapes in ongoing transformation.
This setting is a place for taking part in research and where
innovations can be seen as the instruments most suitable
for coping with complicated problems which encompass the
vast ranges of research and activities focused on produc-
tion issues, problems involving agricultural machinery, trans-
port and the processing and use of food products.
Another key point in the multi-functional salon is the Ma-
terials Village, a platform to host events and initiatives aimed
at promoting materials industries in an outstanding inter-
national setting.
The curator of the village is Material ConneXion Italia, a
multinational consulting firm on innovations and sustain-
ability of materials, which has come up with an innovative
and original format based on a village of materials to pre-
sent companies with opportunities for the exhibition of
their products in iconic homes with captivating designs
which can be totally personalized. Taking shape inside
these homes are the ideal trends for the agriculture of to-
morrow.

è cresciuto sensibilmente nell'ultimo decennio. Vale a di-
re in un lasso di tempo che ha visto il comparto agricolo
prima arretrare in misura significativa, perdendo in media
come valore aggiunto lo 0,5% annuo tra il 2000 e il 2010,
poi caratterizzarsi per dinamiche altalenanti sulle quali
hanno inciso anche gli effetti dei cambiamenti climatici.
Ben diversa invece è stata la linea di tendenza che ha con-
traddistinto, questa volta in positivo, le attività multifun-
zionali.
«Il Censimento dell’agricoltura del 2010 – scrive al ri-
guardo l'Istat in un report del 2016 sull'andamento del
settore primario – ha evidenziato un mutamento signifi-
cativo della struttura produttiva e degli assetti organizza-
tivi delle aziende agricole.
Lo sviluppo di attività che accrescono il ruolo multifunzio-
nale delle aziende agricole in chiave agroambientale e di
tutela del paesaggio ha rappresentato una strategia per
incrementare la redditività, internalizzando alcuni stadi del-
la filiera per trattenere una parte del valore aggiunto del-
le attività di supporto e delle attività secondarie».
Insomma, esiste un minimo comune denominatore tra mol-
ti settori solo all'apparenza distinti, ma in realtà inter-
connessi gli uni agli altri.
Ecco perché il salone EIMA M.i.A. è stato progettato co-
me percorso Green Shared, focalizzato sull'agricoltura co-
me punto di contatto interdisciplinare, dove trovare tec-
nologie, materiali, innovazioni in grado di parlare di natu-
re multiformi e luoghi di confine, di città e di territori agri-
coli, di paesaggi in costante trasformazione.
Un ambito nel quale la ricerca partecipata e l’innovazione
possono essere considerati gli strumenti più adatti ad af-
frontare problematiche complesse che abbracciano un va-
sto ventaglio di ambiti di ricerca e di azione, da quello più
focalizzato sulle problematiche della produzione, a quello
delle macchine agricole, dei trasporti, della trasformazio-
ne e fruizione degli alimenti.
L'altro grande polo intorno al quale si sviluppa il salone
multifunzionalità è il Materials Village, una piattaforma di
eventi e iniziative dedicate a promuovere le aziende pro-
duttrici di materiali in contesti espositivi internazionali di
assoluto rilievo.
Curato da Material ConneXion Italia, un promotore di con-
tatti tra i produttori di materiali innovativi e sostenibili e i
loro potenziali utilizzatori, il Materials Village è un format
innovativo e originale che si sviluppa attorno al concetto
di “villaggio dei materiali” offrendo alle aziende l’oppor-
tunità di esporre i propri prodotti attraverso l’allestimen-
to di case icona dal design accattivante e totalmente per-
sonalizzabile. Case al cui interno prenderanno forma an-
che idealmente le tendenze dell'agricoltura di domani.
