13.03.2023

The gardening machinery and equipment market closes 2022 with a drop of 15.2%, registering 1 million and 403 thousand units sold (they had been 1 million and 650 thousand in 2021). This is what the data processed by the Comagarden manufacturers' association indicate on the basis of information provided by the Morgan survey group. The decline affected almost all types of vehicles. Lawnmowers recorded a decrease of 21.4% (255,000 units sold), brushcutters one of 10% (273,000), while the negative balance of chainsaws was 14.3%, with almost 369,000 machines sold. Hedge trimmers decreased by 24.4% (94 thousand), while the deficit for garden tractors was more contained (-4.2%). There was a slight increase in zero-turn vehicles for hobby use (+0.6% compared to 1,550 units) while only pole pruners (almost 26,500) recorded an increase (10%) compared to. According to Comagarden, the contraction of the market was mainly due to the prolonged dry period that characterized last year and to the significant recovery in inflation, even if a slowdown was expected after the strong increases seen in the last two seasons when the Covid emergency boosted consumption in the hobby segment.
